Lt.-Col. John Barrett-Lennard was born on 14 December 1863.1 He was the son of Walter James Barrett-Lennard and Caroline Dormer.1 He married Mary Emma Gardiner, daughter of J. Gardiner, on 20 October 1887.1 He died on 29 March 1935 at age 71.1
He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the General List.1 He fought in the Boer War in 1900.1 He fought in the First World War.1 He was awarded the Chevalier, Ordre national de la Légion d'honneur.1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1919.1

He married, secondly, Irene Phyllis Moss, daughter of Mark Moss, on 20 July 1940.1 He died in 1975.1
