     He gained the rank of officer in 1856 in the 14th Dragoons.¹ He gained the rank of officer in 1857 in the 109th Regiment.¹ He gained the rank of officer in the 57th and 12th Bombay Native Infantry.¹ He emigrated to Nelson, New Zealand, arriving on 1864.¹ He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Wellington Rangers.¹ He fought in the Maori Wars.¹

     Louisa Elliott was born circa 1842.¹ She married Henry Charles Holland Hastings, son of Henry Cadogan Hastings and Mary Wood, on 21 July 1864 at Nelson, New Zealand.¹
     From 21 July 1864, her married name became Hastings.¹

     Charles Douglas Hastings was born on 14 October 1844 at Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹ He was the son of Henry Cadogan Hastings and Mary Wood.¹
