     Captain James Lockhart Little was born on 14 November 1821 at Shabden Park, Reigate, Surrey, England.1 He was the son of Archibald Little and Agnes Oliver.1 He died on 17 February 1877 at age 55 at Paris, France, without issue.1
     He was commissioned in 1840 with the rank of Cornet, in the service of the 40th Regiment of Foot.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1848 in the 1st King's Dragoon Guards.1 He retired from the military in 1851, with the rank of Captain, late of the 81st Regiment of Foot.1
