     Sir Sidney Stafford Smythe was born in 1705 at London, England.1 He was the son of Henry Smythe and Elizabeth Lloyd.1 He married Sarah Farnaby, daughter of Sir Charles Farnaby, 1st Bt., in 1733.1 He died on 2 November 1778 at Old Bounds, Bidborough, Kent, England.1
     He was educated at St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England.1 He was appointed Knight on 7 November 1750.1 He held the office of Lord Chief Baron of the Exchequer on 28 October 1772.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1777.1
