     Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson was born on 13 November 1850 at 8 Howard Place, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland.¹ He was the son of Thomas Stevenson and Margaret Isabella Balfour.¹ He married Frances Matilda Vandegrift, daughter of Jacob Vandegrift and Esther Thomas Keen, on 19 May 1880 at San Francisco, California, U.S.A.¹ He died on 3 December 1894 at age 44 at Vailima, Samoa.¹
     Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson used the pen-name of Robert Louis Stevenson.¹ He wrote the book New Arabian Nights, published 1882.¹ He wrote the book Treasure Island, published 1883.¹ He wrote the book Kidnapped, published 1886.¹ He wrote the book Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde, published 1886.¹

     James Melville Balfour is the son of Lewis Balfour and Henrietta Scott Smith.¹
     He was marine engineer for Otago Province at New Zealand.¹

     Frances Matilda Vandegrift was born on 10 March 1840 at Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A.¹ She was the daughter of Jacob Vandegrift and Esther Thomas Keen.¹ She married, firstly, Samuel Osborne in 1857.¹ She married, secondly, Robert Lewis Balfour Stevenson, son of Thomas Stevenson and Margaret Isabella Balfour, on 19 May 1880 at San Francisco, California, U.S.A.¹ She and Samuel Osborne were separated in 1875.¹ She died on 10 February 1914 at age 73 at Santa Barbara, California, U.S.A.¹
     From 1857, her married name became Osborne.¹ From 19 May 1880, her married name became Stevenson.¹

     Samuel Osborne was born in 1857.¹ He married Frances Matilda Vandegrift, daughter of Jacob Vandegrift and Esther Thomas Keen, in 1857.¹ He and Frances Matilda Vandegrift were separated in 1875.¹ He died in 1880.¹

     Isobel Osborne was born in 1858.¹ She was the daughter of Samuel Osborne and Frances Matilda Vandegrift.¹ She married Edward Salisbury Field, son of Edward Salisbury and Sarah Mills Hubbard Field, after 1914.¹ She died in 1953.¹
     From after 1914, her married name became Field.¹

     Lloyd Osborne was born in 1868 at San Francisco, California, U.S.A.¹ He was the son of Samuel Osborne and Frances Matilda Vandegrift.¹

     Hervey Osborne was born circa 1870 at Oakland, California, U.S.A.¹ He was the son of Samuel Osborne and Frances Matilda Vandegrift.¹ He died on 5 April 1878 at Paris, France, fro tuberculosis.¹

     Edward Salisbury Field was born on 28 February 1878 at Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A.¹ He was the son of Edward Salisbury and Sarah Mills Hubbard Field.¹ He married Isobel Osborne, daughter of Samuel Osborne and Frances Matilda Vandegrift, after 1914.¹ He died on 20 September 1936 at age 58 at Zaca Lake, Los Olivos, California, U.S.A.¹
     He was an author, playwright, artist, poet and journalist.¹

     Edward Salisbury married Sarah Mills Hubbard Field.¹

     Sarah Mills Hubbard Field married Edward Salisbury.¹
     Her married name became Salisbury.¹
