Admiral Samuel Pitchford Cornish was the son of Samuel Pitchford and Susannah Cornish.1,2 He married Mary Gambier, daughter of John Gambier and Deborah Stiles, on 16 October 1771.2 He died on 3 April 1816.1,2
He was given the name of Samuel Pitchford at birth.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant on 6 August 1759 in the Royal Navy.2 In 1771 his name was legally changed to Samuel Pitchford Cornish under the will of his uncle, Rear-Admiral Samuel Cornish.2 He fought in the Battle of Dominica on 12 April 1782.1 He gained the rank of Rear-Admiral on 21 September 1790.2 He gained the rank of Vice-Admiral on 12 April 1794.2 He gained the rank of Admiral of the Red on 14 February 1799.1
