     Lady Ruth Balfour was the daughter of Gerald William Balfour, 2nd Earl of Balfour and Lady Elizabeth Edith Bulwer-Lytton.1 She married Brigadier Edward William Sturgis Balfour, 9th of Balbirnie, son of Edward Balfour, 8th of Balbirnie and Isabella Weyman Hooper, on 26 December 1914.1 She died on 30 August 1967.1
     She graduated with a Bachelor of Surgery (B.S.)1 She was registered as a Member, Royal College of Surgeons (M.R.C.S.)1 She was registered as a Licentiate, Royal College of Physicians, London (L.R.C.P.)1 She graduated with a Bachelor of Medicine (M.B.)1 She was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1941.1
