     Arthur Balfour was baptised on 27 June 1687 at Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.2 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Hon. John Balfour and Barbara Ross.1 He married by contract, firstly, Dorothy Sandford on 21 February 1736.1 He married by contract, secondly, Janet Paterson, daughter of George Paterson, on 31 July 1740.1 He died on 1 February 1746 at age 58.1
     In 1720 he was restored to the estate of Fernie.1 He lived at Fernie, Fife, ScotlandG.1

     Dorothy Sandford married, firstly, Christopher Crackenthorp before 1736.1 She married by contract, secondly, Arthur Balfour, son of Lt.-Col. Hon. John Balfour and Barbara Ross, on 21 February 1736.1
     From before 1736, her married name became Crackenthorp.1 From 21 February 1736, her married name became Balfour.1

     Lady Margaret Russell was the daughter of Francis Russell, 4th Earl of Bedford and Hon. Catharine Brydges.1 She married, firstly, James Hay, 2nd Earl of Carlisle, son of James Hay, 1st Earl of Carlisle and Lady Honora Denny, on 21 March 1631/32 at St. Benet's Fink, London, EnglandG.2 She married, secondly, Edward Montagu, 2nd Earl of Manchester, son of Henry Montagu, 1st Earl of Manchester and Catharine Spencer, on 1 August 1667.2 She died in November 1676.2 She was buried on 1 December 1676 at Chenies, Buckinghamshire, EnglandG.2
     From 21 March 1631/32, her married name became Hay.1 After her marriage, Lady Margaret Russell was styled as Countess of Carlisle on 25 April 1636. After her marriage, Lady Margaret Russell was styled as Dowager Countess of Carlisle on 30 October 1660. After her marriage, Lady Margaret Russell was styled as Countess of Manchester on 1 August 1667. From 1 August 1667, her married name became Montagu.2
