Maj.-Gen. Arundel Rea Leakey1

     Maj.-Gen. Arundel Rea Leakey was born on 30 December 1915 at Nairobi, Kenya.1 He was the son of Arundell Gray Arundell Leakey and Elizabeth Laing.1 He married, firstly, Muriel Irene le Poer Trench, daughter of Power Watts Trench and Ida Irene Bradshaw, in 1949.1 He and Muriel Irene le Poer Trench were divorced in 1984.1 He married, secondly, Joan Basden Collingridge in 1994.1 He died on 6 October 1999 at age 83.1
     Maj.-Gen. Arundel Rea Leakey usually went by his middle name of Rea.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Second World War.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1941 and bar.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1945.1 He was Director-General of Fighting Vehicles between 1964 and 1966.1 He wrote the book Leakey's Luck, published 1999.1

     Joan Basden Collingridge married, firstly, Major G. C. H. Morant.2 She married, secondly, Maj.-Gen. Arundel Rea Leakey, son of Arundell Gray Arundell Leakey and Elizabeth Laing, in 1994.1 She died on 10 February 2021 at Amesbury Abbey, Amesbury, Wiltshire, England.2
     Her married name became Morant.2 From 1994, her married name became Leakey.1
