Margaret Charlotte Smith, Baroness Strathcona and Mount Royal was born on 17 January 1854.1 She was the daughter of Donald Alexander Smith, 1st Baron Strathcona and Mount Royal and Isabella Sophia Hardisty.2 She married Robert Jared Bliss Howard, son of Robert Palmer Howard, on 8 March 1888.1 She died on 18 August 1926 at age 72.1
From 8 March 1888, her married name became Howard. She was Lady of Grace, Order of St. John of Jerusalem (L.G.St.J.)1 She succeeded as the 2nd Baroness Strathcona and Mount Royal, of Mount Royal, Quebec, Canada and of Glencoe, co. Argyll [U.K., 1900] on 21 January 1914, suo jure.2
