Colonel James Crichton, 3rd of Auchingoul was the son of James Crichton, 2nd of Auchingoul and Margaret Gordon.1 He died in 1769 at Paris, France, in exile, unmarried.1 He was buried at Else, Montreuil, Pas de Calais, France.1
He gained the rank of Colonel in 1745 in the Jacobite.1 He was New Tag Auchingoul in 1750.1
