Sir Geoffrey Taunton Raikes was born on 7 April 1884.3 He was the son of Robert Taunton Raikes and Rosa Margaret Cripps.1 He was baptised on 11 May 1884 at Chiselhurst, Kent, England.4,3 He married Dorothy Amabel Wilson-Fox, daughter of William Arthur Wilson-Fox and Alice Theodora Raikes, in 1923 at Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England.3 He died in 1975 at Brecknock, Brecknockshire, Wales.4,3
     He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.)2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.)2 He was commissioned in 1903, in the service of the South Wales Borderers.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He was commanding officer of the 2nd Battalion, South Wales Borderers in April 1918.4 He held the office of Lord-Lieutenant of Brecknockshire between 1948 and 1959.4
