Alan Frederick Cathcart, 3rd Earl Cathcart was born on 14 November 1828 at Hythe, Kent, EnglandG.1 He was the son of General Charles Murray Cathcart, 2nd Earl Cathcart and Henrietta Mather.2 He married Elizabeth Mary Crompton, daughter of Sir Samuel Crompton, 1st Bt. and Isabella Sophia Cathcart, on 2 April 1850 at Thornton le Street, Yorkshire, EnglandG.1 He died on 30 October 1905 at age 76.3
