     Lt.-Gen Sir Robert Grant was born on 10 August 1837 at Bombay, India.2 He was the son of Rt. Hon. Sir Robert Grant and Margaret Davidson.3 He married Victoria Alexandrina Cotes, daughter of John Cotes and Lady Louisa Harriet Jenkinson, on 24 November 1875 at Westminster, London, England.1,2 He died on 8 January 1904 at age 66.2
     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, England.1 He gained the rank of 2nd Lieutenant in 1854 in the Royal Engineers.1 He was educated at Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, London, England.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to Lt.-Gen. Sir William Fenwick Williams, Commanding Officer of British Forces, British North America between 1859 and 1865.1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1867.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1872.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in 1878.1 He fought in the Sudan Expedition in 1885, as Commander, Royal Engineers.1 He was Deputy Adjutant General, Royal Enginneers, Army Headquarters between 1886 and 1891.1 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1889.2 He was Inspector-General of Fortifications between 1891 and 1898.1 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1896.2 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1897.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in the Royal Engineers.1 He was appointed Knight Grand Cross, Order of the Bath (G.C.B.) in 1902.2
