Sir Thomas Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston was the son of Robert Hamilton and Janet Johnston.2 He married, secondly, Anne Hamilton, daughter of Sir James Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Barbara Mure.1 He married, firstly, Margaret Murray.1 He married, thirdly, Rachel Burnet, daughter of Robert Burnet, Lord Crimond and Rachel Johnston.2 He died in 1672.2

Sir William Hamilton of Preston, 1st Bt. was born circa 1645.1 He was the son of Sir Thomas Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Anne Hamilton.2 He married Rachel Nicolson, daughter of Sir Thomas Nicolson of Cockburnspath and Rachel Burnet, in 1670.1 He died circa 1690, without male issue.1
He was created 1st Baronet Hamilton, of Preston, co. Haddington [Nova Scotia] on 5 November 1673, with special remainder to heris male whatsoever.1 He sold his estates to his daughter's father-in-law Sir James Oswald in 1681 to Sir James Oswald.1 He emigrated to The Netherlands.1
