     Janet Johnston is the daughter of unknown Johnston of Elphinstone.² She married Robert Hamilton, son of George Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Barbara Cockburn, in 1606.¹
     From 1606, her married name became Hamilton.

     Sir Thomas Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston was the son of Robert Hamilton and Janet Johnston.² He married, secondly, Anne Hamilton, daughter of Sir James Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Barbara Mure.¹ He married, firstly, Margaret Murray.¹ He married, thirdly, Rachel Burnet, daughter of Robert Burnet, Lord Crimond and Rachel Johnston.² He died in 1672.²

     Margaret Murray married Sir Thomas Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston, son of Robert Hamilton and Janet Johnston.¹
     Her married name became Hamilton.

     Sir William Hamilton of Preston, 1st Bt. was born circa 1645.¹ He was the son of Sir Thomas Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Anne Hamilton.² He married Rachel Nicolson, daughter of Sir Thomas Nicolson of Cockburnspath and Rachel Burnet, in 1670.¹ He died circa 1690, without male issue.¹
     He was created 1st Baronet Hamilton, of Preston, co. Haddington [Nova Scotia] on 5 November 1673, with special remainder to heris male whatsoever.¹ He sold his estates to his daughter's father-in-law Sir James Oswald in 1681 to Sir James Oswald.¹ He emigrated to The Netherlands.¹

     James Buchanan is the son of George Buchanan.¹ He married Sarah Lundy, daughter of James Lundy and Sarah Rusk, on 30 June 1892 at Corvalley, County Monaghan, Ireland.¹
     He was a farmer at Drutamon, County Cavan, Ireland.¹

     Rachel Nicolson is the daughter of Sir Thomas Nicolson of Cockburnspath and Rachel Burnet.² She married Sir William Hamilton of Preston, 1st Bt., son of Sir Thomas Hamilton of Fingalton and Preston and Anne Hamilton, in 1670.¹
     From 1670, her married name became Hamilton.

     Rachel Hamilton was the daughter of Sir William Hamilton of Preston, 1st Bt. and Rachel Nicolson.² She died, unm.¹

     Anne Hamilton is the daughter of Sir William Hamilton of Preston, 1st Bt. and Rachel Nicolson.² She married, firstly, Thomas Oswald, son of Sir James Oswald, in 1697.¹ She married, secondly, Gilbert Burnet, son of Sir Thomas Burnet of Crimond, in 1705.¹
     From 1697, her married name became Oswald.¹ From 1705, her married name became Burnet.¹

     Sir James Oswald purchased his estates to his daughter's father-in-law Sir James Oswald in 1681 from Sir William Hamilton of Preston, 1st Bt.¹
