John Vincent Sheffield was born on 11 November 1913.1 He was the son of Sir Berkeley Digby George Sheffield, 6th Bt. and Julie Marie Barones van Tuyll van Serooskerken.2 He married, firstly, Anne Margaret Faudel-Phillips, daughter of Sir Lionel Lawson Faudel Faudel-Phillips, 3rd Bt. and Armyne Evelyn Gordon, on 21 April 1936.1 He married, secondly, France Mary Agnes Clarke, daughter of Brig.-Gen. Goland Vanholt Clarke, on 11 October 1971.2 He died on 9 May 2008 at age 94.3
He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, England.1 He graduated from Magdalene College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He was appointed Commander, Order of the British Empire (C.B.E.) in 1941.1 He was Secretary, Board of Salvage, Ministry of Supply between 1941 and 1942.1 He was Deputy Director, Emergency Works and Recovery, Ministry of Works between 1942 and 1943.1 He was Private Secretary to the Ministry of Works between 1943 and 1944.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Lincolnshire in 1944.1 He was founder of Norcross Ltd in 1956.1 He was chairman of Portals Ltd between 1969 and 1980.1 He was chairman of BEC between 1980 and 1983.1 He was appointed Officer, Most Venerable Order of the Hospital of St. John of Jerusalem (O.St.J.)1 He lived in 2003 at New Barn House, Laverstoke, Whitchurch, Hampshire, England.1
