Richard Bowen Woosnam was born on 5 January 1881 at St. Andrews, Holborn, London, England.1 He was the son of Bowen Pottinger Woosnam and Kate Evans.1 He died on 4 June 1915 at age 34 at Gallipoli, Turkey, killed in action.2
He was educated at Wellington College, Crowthorne, Berkshire, England.1 He fought in the Boer War.1 He gained the rank of officer in the 4th Welsh Militia.1 He toured the Cape Colony, Bechuanaland, Orange River and Vaal Rivers on behalf of the British Museum.1 In 1905 he accompanied Colonel Bailward ona tour from teh Persian Gulf through to Armenia, collecting mammals and birds for the British Museum.1 He explored the Mountains of the Moon in Equatorial Africa.1 He was awarded the Silver Medal of the Royal Zoological Society.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the 6th Battalion, Worcestershire Regiment.2 He fought in the First World War.2
