William Augustin Hyder was baptised on 28 August 1818 at All Saints, Whitstable, Kent, England.2 He was the son of William Hyder and Sarah Eagleton.2 He married Mercy Poe, daughter of H. Jacobs Poe, on 15 November 1848 at St. George's Hanover Sqare, London, England.2 He died in 1862 at Faversham, Kent, England.2
In September 1845 he was court martialled for conduct unbecoming (trying to deceive his commanding officer) and was acquitted.2 He gained the rank of Captain in the 10th Hussars.1
