     James Somerville, 5th Lord Somerville was the son of Hugh Somerville, 4th Lord Somerville and Janet Maitland.1 He married Agnes Hamilton, daughter of Sir James Hamilton of Finnart and Margaret Livingston of Easter Wemyss.1 He died in 1569.1
     He succeeded as the 5th Lord Somerville [S., 1444] in 1549.1 He fought in the Battle of Langside in 1568.1 In May 1568 he joined Queen Mary with three hundred horse.1
