Lt.-Gen. Hon. Alexander Mackay was the son of George Mackay, 3rd Lord Reay and Mary Dowell.2 He married Margaret Carr, daughter of Sir William Carr of Ettalf, on 24 December 1770.1 He died on 31 May 1789, without issue.1
In 1745 he raised an independent company for Loudoun's Highlanders.1 He fought in the Battle of Prestonpans on 21 September 1745, where he was captured.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Sutherland in 1761.1 He was Commander-in-Chief of the forces in Scotland in 1780.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-General in 1780.1

Æneas Mackay was born in 1666.2 He was the son of John Mackay, 2nd Lord Reay and Barbara Mackay.3 He married Margaret Puchler, daughter of Lt.-Col. Francis Puchler and Jacoba van Bie, in 1692.1 He died on 20 May 1697 at Bath, Somerset, England.1,2
He was naturalized at The Netherlands.1 He gained the rank of Brigadier-General and Colonel-Proprietor in the Mackay Scottish Regiment in service of Netherlands.1
