Edward Feetham Coates, 1st Bt. was born on 28 February 1853.1 He was the son of James Coates and Elizabeth Sayer.2 He married Edith Woolley, daughter of unknown Woolley, on 30 April 1878.1 He died on 14 August 1921 at age 68.1
He gained the rank of Captain and Honorary Major in the 3rd Battalion, Duke of Wellington's West Riding Regiment.1 He was member of Coates, Son & Company, stockbrokers.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for Lewisham between 1903 and 1918.1 He was created 1st Baronet Coates, of Helperby Hall, Helperby, co. York [U.K.] on 29 June 1911.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Conservative) for West Lewisham between 1918 and 1921.1

Reverend Charles Hutton Coates was born on 5 April 1857.1 He was the son of James Coates and Elizabeth Sayer.2 He married Frances Mary Richardson, daughter of Joseph Richardson, on 21 April 1892.1 He died on 15 February 1922 at age 64.1
He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, with a Master of Arts (M.A.)1 He gained the rank of Chaplain in the Royal Navy.1 He was Rector in 1898 at Burton Agnes, Yorkshire, England.1 He was Rural Dean of Bridlington in 1904.1
