David Kirkwood, 1st Baron Kirkwood was born on 8 July 1872.1 He was the son of John Kirkwood and Jean Brown.2 He married Elizabeth Smith, daughter of Robert Smith, on 30 June 1899.1 He died on 16 April 1955 at age 82.1
He was educated at Parkhead Public School, Parkhead, Glasgow, Lanarkshire, Scotland.1 In 1916 he was deported as leader of protest against rent increases.1 He held the office of Member of Glasgow Town Council between 1918 and 1922.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Labour) for Clydebank, Dumbarton Burghs between 1922 and 1950.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Glasgow in 1935.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1948.1 He wrote the book My Life of Revolt.1 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Labour) for East Dumbarton between 1950 and 1951.1 He was created 1st Baron Kirkwood, of Bearsden, co. Dunbarton [U.K.] on 22 December 1951.1

John Kirkwood was born on 29 March 1900.1 He was the son of David Kirkwood, 1st Baron Kirkwood and Elizabeth Smith.2 He married Ellen Florence Haggar, daughter of Thomas Peter Haggar, on 22 October 1932.1 He died on 8 December 1942 at age 42.1
