John King was born on 16 January 1789.1 He married Christina Macnie, daughter of James Macnie, on 14 February 1826.1 He died on 31 October 1875 at age 86.2
He was proprietor of Charles MacIntosh & Company (rainwear manufacturers) and Paisley and Hunlett Alumimium Company.1 He was director of Clydesdale Bank, Forth-Clyde Navigation Company and Glasgow and South-West Railway.1 He lived at Campsie, Stirlingshire, Scotland.1 He lived at Levernholme, Renfrewshire, Scotland.1
