Sir John Jardine, 1st Bt. was born on 27 September 1844.1 He was the son of William Jardine and Jane Sharpe.2 He married Minnie Dunbar Hogg, daughter of Jabez Hogg and Jessie Terraneau, on 27 November 1880.1 He died on 26 April 1919 at age 74.1
He was educated in 1864 at Christ's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Chancellor's Medal for English poem.1 He was with the Bombay Civil Service in 1864.1 He was Registrar of the High Court of Bombay in 1873.1 He was Law Officer Supreme Governor in 1877.1 He held the office of Judicial Commissioner of Burma in 1878.1 He was president of the Burma School Board in 1881.1 He held the office of Chief Secretary of the Bombay Government
