     John Viret Gooch was born on 29 June 1812.¹ He was the son of John Gooch and Anna Longridge.² He married, firstly, Hannah Frances Handcock, daughter of Captain Elias Robinson Handcock, in June 1840.¹ He married, secondly, Emily Mary Stonhouse, daughter of Reverend Charles Stonhouse and Anne Lucy Lewis, on 16 March 1876.¹ He died on 8 June 1900 at age 87, leaving issue.¹
