William Stothert1

     William Stothert was the son of James Stothert and Margaret Cockburn.2 He married Rebecca Thomson Monteith, daughter of Robert Monteith, at Edinburgh, Midlothian, ScotlandG.3 He died on 23 June 1815 at Brussels, BelgiumG, from wounds received in action.4
     He held the office of Deputy Lieutenant (D.L.) of Dumfries-shire.1 He wrote the book A narrative of the principal events of the campaigns of 1809, 1810, & 1811, in Spain and Portugal.5 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Dumfries-shire.1 He gained the rank of Captain in the Coldstream Guards.1 He lived at Cargen, Dumfries-shire, ScotlandG.1 He fought in the Battle of Waterloo on 18 June 1815, where he was wounded.4
