Sir Richard Grenville was born on 5 June 1542 at Buckland Abbey, Devon, EnglandG.3 He was the son of Roger Grenville and Thomasine Cole.3 He married Mary St. Leger, daughter of John St. Leger and Lady Catherine Neville, in 1566.3 He died on 12 September 1591 at age 49, after being captured by the Spanish.3
He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cornwall.2 Sir Richard Grenville also went by the nick-name of 'Hero of the Revenge'.1 He held the office of Captain, Royal Navy. of the Revenge.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Cork from 1569 to 1570.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Cornwall from 1576 to 1577.2 He was appointed Knight in 1577.3 He was an armed merchant fleet owner, privateer, colonizer and explorer.2
