Major Richard Patrick Murray Gordon Dill1

     Major Richard Patrick Murray Gordon Dill was born on 24 November 1921 at Newhaven, Hampshire, England.1,2 He was the son of Major John Martin Gordon Dill and Ethné Charlton Murray.3 He married, firstly, Mary Chichester Mills, daughter of James Paul Mills and Alice Frances du Pont, on 27 June 1959.1 He and Mary Chichester Mills were divorced in 1967.1 He married, secondly, Kari Penelope Sheppard, daughter of Graham Hugh Sheppard, on 21 February 1968.1 He died on 28 September 1993 at age 71 at Idlicote, Warwickshire, England.1,2
     He was given the name of Richard Patrick Murray Gordon Dill at birth. He was educated at Eton College, Windsor, Berkshire, EnglandG.1 He fought in the Second World War, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He was commissioned in 1942, in the service of the King's Royal Irish Hussars.1 He was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG.1 In August 1954 his name was legally changed to Richard Patrick Murray Gordon Murray by Deed Poll in compliance with the will of his maternal grandfather.1 He was recognised by Lord Lyon King of Arms, and matriculated his arms at the Lyons Court on 12 November 1955.3 On 10 September 1956 his name was legally changed to Richard Patrick Murray Gordon Dill he discontinued use of the surname Murray.1 He was Military Assistant to the U.K. Represetantive to NATO from 1957 to 1958 at Washington, D.C., U.S.A.G.1 He retired from the military in 1959.1 He lived in 1976 at Idlicote House, Shipston-on-Stour, Warwickshire, EnglandG.1 He lived in 1976 at Stream Hill, County Cork, IrelandG.1

     Mary Chichester Mills was born in 1937 at Pennsylvania, U.S.A.2 She is the daughter of James Paul Mills and Alice Frances du Pont.3,2 She married, firstly, Major Richard Patrick Murray Gordon Dill, son of Major John Martin Gordon Dill and Ethné Charlton Murray, on 27 June 1959.1 She and Major Richard Patrick Murray Gordon Dill were divorced in 1967.1 She married, secondly, Bernard Henry Richard van Cutsem, son of Henry Harcourt van Cutsem and Eleanor Mary Josephine Southwell Trafford, between 1968 and 1971.4 She married, thirdly, John William Abel Smith, son of Jocelyn Abel Smith and Diana Joan Wrey, on 30 March 1975 at St. Augustine's Church, Cecil County, Maryland, U.S.A.2
     From 27 June 1959, her married name became Dill. From between 1968 and 1971, her married name became van Cutsem.4 From 30 March 1975, her married name became Abel Smith.
