David Fitzgibbon1

     David Fitzgibbon was the son of Gibbon Fitzgibbon and Margaret O'Grady.2 He married Joanna Butler, daughter of Theobald Butler and Elizabeth Commerford.1 He died, at a great age (being still remembered by persons living as 'Old Captain FitzGibbon').1
     He gained the rank of Captain of horse before 1640 in the Colonel Grady's Regiment and Colonel William O'Brien's Regiment.1 He held the office of Governor of Ardfinnan Castle, County Tipperary, when Cromwell took Clonmel.1 He was besieged by Ireton and compelled to surrender, but on honourable terms.1 He lived at Neddans, County Tipperary, IrelandG.1
