     He was awarded the Territorial Decoration (T.D.)1 He was educated at Loretto School, Edinburgh, Midlothian, Scotland. He was educated at Jesus College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England. He fought in the Second World War. He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) in 1945.1 He was appointed Officer, Order of the British Empire (O.B.E.) in 1966.1
