William Plunket Cairnes was born on 1 April 1857.1 He was the son of Thomas Plunket Cairnes and Sophia Gaussen.2,1 He married Alice Jane Algar, daughter of Maj.-Gen. James Sturgeon Hamilton Algar and Jane de Nully, on 1 December 1886.1 He died on 18 December 1925 at age 68.1
