Barbara Burrowes was born on 10 August 1898.1 She is the daughter of Major Sidney Robert Burrowes and Adeline Jane Sibley.2

Lt.-Col. Algernon St. Leger Burrowes was born on 5 December 1847.1 He was the son of Reverend Thomas Robert Fiennes Forth Burrowes and Amelia Wintle.2 He married Fanny Henrietta Hoare, daughter of W. Barry Hoare, on 22 June 1875.1 He died on 18 December 1925 at age 78.1
He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.1 He fought in the Sudan Campaign between 1884 and 1885, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Royal Marines Light Infantry.1 He was Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1911.1 He was Recruiting Staff Officer between 1916 and 1918.1 He lived at Moorside, Budleigh Salterton, Devon, EnglandG.1
