Lady Catherine Hay was born on 7 June 1753 at Yester, East Lothian, Scotland.1,2 She was the daughter of John Hay, 4th Marquess of Tweedale and Lady Frances Carteret.1 She married Major William Hay, son of John Hay and Dorothy Hayhurst, on 23 April 1774.1 She died on 11 July 1776 at age 23.1

Lady Frances Carteret was born on 6 April 1718.2 She was the daughter of John Carteret, 2nd Earl Granville and Frances Worsley.1 She was baptised on 1 May 1718 at St. Martin in the Fields, Westminster, London, England.2 She married John Hay, 4th Marquess of Tweedale, son of Charles Hay, 3rd Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Susanna Hamilton, on 24 May 1748.1 She died on 25 December 1788 at age 70.1

Lord John Hay was the son of John Hay, 2nd Marquess of Tweeddale and Lady Mary Maitland.2,1 He married, firstly, Lady Elizabeth Dalzell, daughter of James Dalzell, 3rd Earl of Carnwath and Lady Mary Seton.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Orby, daughter of Sir Thomas Orby, 1st Bt..2 He died on 25 August 1706, without issue.2
