Major Edward Neville Townsend was born on 1 July 1871.1 He was the son of Edward Richard Townsend and Elizabeth Humphreys.2 He married Marcia Sarah Cooper, daughter of Austin Damer Cooper and Caroline Anne Maria Bloxham, on 10 February 1902.1 He died on 10 January 1938 at age 66, without issue.1
He was educated at Aberdeen University, Aberdeen, Aberdeenshire, ScotlandG.1 He fought in the Boer War, dangerously wounded.1 He fought in the First World War, where he was mentioned in despatches, severely wounded and became a POW.1 He was awarded the Distinguished Service Order (D.S.O.) in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Major in 1920 in the Duke of Wellington's Regiment, (invalided ).1 He lived at Wayside, Delgany, County Wicklow, IrelandG.1
