Colonel George Arthur French1

     Colonel George Arthur French was born on 21 January 1865.2 He was the son of Maj.-Gen. Sir George Arthur French and Janet Clarke Innes.3 He married Annie Elizabeth Jefferies, daughter of Thomas Jefferies, on 11 February 1899.2 He died on 15 December 1950 at age 85.2
     He was educated at St. John's College, Winnipeg, Manitoba, CanadaG.2 He was commissioned in 1881 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Royal Marines Light Infantry.2 He was educated at Oxford Military College, Hollow Way, Cowley, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.1 He was Aide-de-Camp to General Officer Commanding Ceylon between 1893 and 1894.2 In 1898 he served in the Cretan Rebellion.2 He was DAAG of the Malta between 1898 and 1899.2 He fought in the Boer War between 1899 and 1900, where he was mentioned in despatches three times.2 He was awarded the Royal Humane Society Medal for saving life at sea.2 He fought in the First World War.2 He was AQMG of the Western Command between 1914 and 1916.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of St. Michael and St. George (C.M.G.) in 1917.2 He lived at Newbay, County Wexford, IrelandG.1
