Lt.-Col. Sir William Gordon Gordon-Cumming of Altyre, 4th Bt. was born on 20 July 1848.1 He was the son of Lt.-Col. Sir Alexander Penrose Gordon-Cumming of Altyre, 3rd Bt. and Anne Pitcairn Campbell.2 He married Florence Josephine Garner, daughter of W. Garner, on 10 June 1891.1 He died on 20 May 1930 at age 81.1
He succeeded as the 4th Baronet Gordon-Cumming, of Altyre and of Gordonstoun, co. Moray [U.K., 1804] on 2 September 1866.1 He fought in the Zulu War in 1879, where he was mentioned in despatches.1 He fought in the Egyptian Campaign in 1882.1 He gained the rank of officer between 1884 and 1885 in the Guards Camel Regiment in Desert Column.1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant-Colonel in the Scots Guards.1
