William John Hampton1

     William John Hampton was born in 1887.1 He was the son of Joseph Henry Hampton and Mary Troughton.1 He married Margaret Elizabeth Hampton, daughter of John Moffat Hampton and Ellen Jane Bennett, in June 1925.2,3 He died on 7 June 1973.4 He was buried at Ellesmere Public Cemetery, Ellesmere, Canterbury, New ZealandG, plot 736.4
     Richard, William, Margaret, Joseph, Mary, Robert, Isabella, Francis and Sarah immigrated with his parents to Lyttelton, Canterbury, New ZealandG, on the ship Corinthic, arriving 26 December 1909.5 William served in the 1st NZEF in 1914.3 He was a farmer from 1919 to 1952 at Little Rakaia, Canterbury, New ZealandG.3 He was a farmer after 1952 at Marawhiti Road, Methven, Canterbury, New ZealandG.3
