Very Rev. James Bland was the son of John Bland.1 He married Lucy Brewster, daughter of Sir Francis Brewster.1
He was educated at Sedbergh School, Sedbergh, Cumbria, EnglandG.1 He matriculated at St. John's College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, on 3 May 1684.1 He was the first of the family to settle in Ireland.1 He emigrated to IrelandG arriving in 1692 as the Chaplain to Lord Deputy Sidney.1 He held the office of Archdeacon of Limerick.1 He held the office of Dean of Ardfert.1 He sold his estates in Sedbergh, Yorkshire to Richard Willen in a deed of sale registered in Wakefield in 1717. He was described as of Killarney, County Kerry, IrelandG.1
