Sir James Dalrymple-Hay of Park Place, 2nd Bt. was born on 8 July 1788 at Dunragit, Wigtownshire, ScotlandG.2,3,1 He was the son of Sir John Dalrymple-Hay of Park Place, 1st Bt. and Susan Hay.1 He married, firstly, Elizabeth Heron-Maxwell, daughter of Lt.-Gen. Sir John Shaw Heron-Maxwell of Springkell, 4th Bt. and Mary Heron, on 27 September 1819.4,5 He married, secondly, Anne Hathorn, daughter of George Hathorn and Sarah Donaldson, on 31 March 1823 at St. Pancras New Church, London, England.4 He died on 19 March 1861 at age 72 at Dunragit, Wigtownshire, ScotlandG.4
