He was educated at Christ Church, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.3 He held the office of High Sheriff of Cheshire in 1764.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Stafford between 1765 and 1768.3 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cheshire between 1768 and 1802.3 He was created 1st Baron Crewe, of Crewe, co. Chester [U.K.] on 25 February 1806.3

Maj.-Gen. Richard Crewe was born on 27 September 1749.1 He was the son of John Crewe and Anne Shuttleworth.1 He married Milborough Allpress, daughter of Samuel Alpress and Margaret Eleanor Aikenhead.1 He died on 17 June 1814 at age 64.1
