     He was educated at Harrow School, Harrow, London, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Trinity College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, in 1897 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Lieutenant in the Thorneycroft's Mounted Infantry.1 He fought in the Boer War.1
