Robert MacCarty, Viscount Muskerry was born in 1685.1 He was the son of Donogh MacCarty, 4th Earl of Clancarty and Lady Elizabeth Spencer.1 He married, firstly, Joanna Player, daughter of Captain Henry Player and Joanna Benett, on 14 December 1722.1 He married, secondly, Elizabeth Farnelly after 1758.2 He died on 19 September 1769 at FranceG.1
He styled himself as Viscount Muskerry between 1686 and 1734.1 He was educated at St. Paul's School, London, EnglandG.3 He held the office of Governor of Newfoundland between 1733 and 1735.1 In 1747 he was excepted from the Act of Indemnity, pardoning Jacobites.1
