Lady Margaret Douglas was the daughter of William Douglas, 6th Earl of Morton and Lady Agnes Leslie.1 A contract for the marriage of Lady Margaret Douglas and Sir John Wemyss of Wemyss was signed on 17 April 1574.1 She died, without issue.2

William Douglas, 7th Earl of Morton was born circa 1584.1 He was the son of Robert Douglas, Master of Morton and Jean Lyon.1 He married Lady Anne Keith, daughter of George Keith, 4th Earl Marischal and Margaret Home, on 28 March 1604.1 He died on 7 August 1648.
He succeeded as the 7th Earl of Morton [S., 1458] circa September 1606.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) [Scotland] in 1621.1 He was appointed Privy Counsellor (P.C.) in 1627.1 He held the office of Lord High Treasurer [Scotland] between 1630 and 1636.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.) in 1633.1 He held the office of Captain of the Yeoman of the Guard between 1635 and 1644.1 On 16 March 1638 he was granted a charter of the lands, Earldom and Barony of Morton.1 As a Royalist he raised £100,000 by parting with the Dalkeith and other estates.1 On 15 June 1643 he was granted by Royal Charter the Orkney and Shetland Islands, redeemable on payment of £30,000.1
