Lt.-Col. Servais Fitz Walter Marius del Court was born on 18 December 1895 at Brugge, Belgium.1 He was the son of Jacob Wilem Cornelis del Court and Mabel Butler Florence Johnstone.1,2 He married Elizabeth Gubbins, daughter of John Gaspard Gubbins, on 22 September 1951 at Hermanus, Cape Province, South Africa.2 He died in 1970 at South Africa.1
He was educated at Framlingham College, Suffolk, England.1 He was educated at Royal Military College, Sandhurst, Berkshire, England.1 He was commissioned on 23 December 1914 with the rank of officer, in the service of the Middlesex Regiment.1 He fought in the First World War between 1915 and 1918, where he was wounded twice.1 He was awarded the Military Cross (M.C.) on 18 October 1917 and bar (1920.)1 He fought in the Russian Civil War in 1919.1 He gained the rank of Major on 1 August 1938.1
