He was educated at Lancing College, Lancing, Sussex, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Selwyn College, Cambridge University, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, EnglandG, with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1 He gained the rank of Captain in 1942 in the Royal Army Service Corps (R.A.S.C.)1 He fought in the Second World War between 1942 and 1945.1 He was appointed Member, Order of the British Empire (M.B.E.) in 1957.1
