     Cornelius Vanderbilt was born on 27 May 1794 at Staten Island, New York City, New York, U.S.A.G.2 He was the son of Cornelius Vanderbilt and Phebe Hand.1 He married, firstly, Sophia Johnson, daughter of Nathaniel Johnson and Elizabeth Hand, on 19 December 1813.2 He married, secondly, Frank Armstrong Crawford, daughter of Robert Leighton Crawford and Mary Eliza Everett, on 21 August 1869.2 He died on 4 January 1877 at age 82 at New York City, New York, U.S.A.G.2 He was buried at Moravian Cemetery, New Dorp, Staten Island, New York City, New York, U.S.A.G.2
     Cornelius Vanderbilt also went by the nick-name of 'The Commodore'.1 He was founder of steam services on the Hudson River.2 In 1844 a director of the Long Island Railroad.2 He was a director of the New York and Harlem Railroad in 1857.2 In 1869 he formed the New York Central and Hudson River Railwod.2

     Sophia Johnson was born in 1795.1 She was the daughter of Nathaniel Johnson and Elizabeth Hand.2,3 She married Cornelius Vanderbilt, son of Cornelius Vanderbilt and Phebe Hand, on 19 December 1813.2 She died in 1868.1
     From 19 December 1813, her married name became Vanderbilt.2
