Reverend Francis Edmund Cecil Byng, 5th Earl of Strafford was born on 15 January 1835.1 He was the son of George Stevens Byng, 2nd Earl of Strafford and Lady Agnes Paget.2 He married, firstly, Florence Louisa Miles, daughter of Sir William Miles, 1st Bt. and Catherine Gordon, on 8 June 1859.2 He married, secondly, Emily Georgina Kerr, daughter of Admiral Lord Frederic Herbert Kerr and Emily Sophia Maitland, on 4 August 1866.2 He died on 18 January 1918 at age 83.1
