     William Henry Beveridge, 1st and last Baron Beveridge was born on 5 March 1879.1 He was the son of Henry Beveridge and Annette Akroyd.1,2 He married Jessy Janet Philip, daughter of William Philip, on 15 December 1942.1 He died on 16 March 1963 at age 84.1
     He was educated at Charterhouse School, Godalming, Surrey, EnglandG.1 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1901 with a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.)1,2 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1902 with a Bachelor of Civil Laws (B.C.L.)2 He graduated from Balliol College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG, in 1902 with a Master of Arts (M.A.)2 He was admitted to Inner Temple in 1904 entitled to practise as a Barrister-at-Law.2 He was a civil servant between 1908 and 1919.2 He was appointed Companion, Order of the Bath (C.B.) in 1916.2 He was appointed Knight Commander, Order of the Bath (K.C.B.) in 1919.2 He was Director of the London School of Economics between 1919 and 1937.2 He graduated from London University, London, EnglandG, in 1930 with a Doctor of Science, Economics (D.Sc.)2 He wrote the book Full Employment in a Free Society.2 He was appointed Fellow, British Academy (F.B.A.) in 1937.2 He was a master between 1937 and 1944 at University College, Oxford University, Oxford, Oxfordshire, EnglandG.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) (Liberal) for Berwick-upon-Tweed between 1944 and 1945.2 He was created 1st Baron Beveridge, of Tuggal, co. Northumberland [U.K.] on 25 June 1946.1
     On his death, his barony became extinct.1 He has an extensive biographical entry in the Dictionary of National Biography.3
