     Harriet Susannah Gaussen was baptised on 25 January 1795.2 She was the daughter of Samuel Robert Gaussen.1 She married James Best, son of Thomas Best and Elizabeth Irwin, on 23 September 1817 at Boxley, Kent, England.1,2 She died on 21 January 1875 at age 79.1
     From 23 September 1817, her married name became Best.1

     Samuel Robert Gaussen was born on 27 February 1759.2 He was the son of Peter Gaussen and Anna Maria Bosanquet. He married Elizabeth Bosanquet, daughter of Jacob Bosanquet, on 26 July 1783.2 He died on 14 August 1812 at age 53.2
     He was director of The South Sea Company between 1782 and 1812.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Hertfordshire between 1790 and 1791.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Warick between 1796 and 1802.2 He lived at Brookman's Park, Hertfordshire, EnglandG.1

     Mawdistly Gaussen Best was born on 23 August 1826.1 He was the son of James Best and Harriet Susannah Gaussen.1 He married Katherine Annabella Brockman, daughter of Reverend Tatton Brockman, on 14 April 1864.1 He died on 14 July 1906 at age 79, without issue.1
     He gained the rank of officer in the 34th Regiment.1 He fought in the Siege of Sebastopol.1 He fought in the assault on Redan.1 He fought in the Indian Mutiny in 1857.1 He gained the rank of Brevet Major.1 He held the office of Justice of the Peace (J.P.) for Kent.1 He held the office of High Sheriff of Kent in 1881.1 He lived at Park House, Boxley, Kent, EnglandG.1
