He held the office of Lord High Treasurer [England], to King Henry VII.1 He was appointed Knight, Order of the Garter (K.G.)1 He fought in the Battle of Bosworth in 1485.2 In January 1503 he helped King Henry VII lay the foundation stone of Henry VII's Chapel, Westminster.2

Thomas Wharton, 1st Baron Wharton was born circa 1495.2 He was the son of Thomas Wharton and Agnes Warcop.3 He married, firstly, Eleanor Stapilton, daughter of Sir Bryan Stapilton, before 4 July 1518.2 He married, secondly, Lady Anne Talbot, daughter of Francis Talbot, 5th Earl of Shrewsbury and Mary Dacre, on 18 November 1561 at Sheffield, Yorkshire, West Riding, EnglandG.1 He died on 23 August 1568 at Henlaugh, EnglandG.1 He was buried at Henlaugh, EnglandG.1
He was appointed Knight circa 1528.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Cumberland from 1529 to 1530.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Appleby from 1529 to 1536.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Cumberland from 1535 to 1536.2 He held the office of Deputy Warden of the Western Marches in 1537.2 He held the office of Sheriff of Cumberland from 1539 to 1540.2 He held the office of Governor of Carlisle in 1541.2 He held the office of Member of Parliament (M.P.) for Cumberland between 1542 and 1544.2 He fought in the Battle of Solway Moss on 24 November 1542, where he gave a good account of himself, which is thought to have played a large part in winning him a peerage and certainly is what earned him the honourable augmentation to his arms from King Edward VI on 23 April 1553.2 He held the office of Warden of the Western March from 1543 to 1549.2 He was created 1st Baron Wharton, of Wharton, co. Mary Bray was born circa 1518.1 She was the daughter of Edmund Bray, 1st Lord Braye and Jane Halliwell.1 She married Sir Robert Peckham, son of Sir Edmund Peckham and Anne Cheyne.1 She died in 1569.1 Her will was proven (by probate) on 17 September 1569.1
